Tennis star Kei Nishikori doubtful to play in Australian Open

Japan’s tennis star Kei Nishikori is doubtful to play at the Australian Open in the first title of the year, starting at Melbourne Park from 20 January. Nishikori is not fit yet. For this reason, he has been out of court for some time and his ranking has also slipped to 13th position. Nishikori will not be able to represent his country in the team event ATP Cup starting on Friday.  Nishikori underwent an operation of his elbow in October and he has not yet achieved complete puffiness. Yoshihito Nishioka has been replaced in place of Nishikori in the ATP Cup team.

Prior to Nishikori, Britain’s Andy Murray also withdrew from the ATP Cup competition due to injury while Roger Federer decided not to play in it.This team championship will be between January 3 and 12, whose prize money is 10 million dollars. There will also be a maximum of 750 ranking points in singles and 250 in doubles.In the competition 24 countries will be placed in six groups which will play each other on a round robin basis. Eight of the top teams will reach knockout. Group stage matches will be played in Perth, Sydney and Brisbane.The final will be in Sydney.
