Not only this, when Indira was arrested in 1978 after the Janata Party came to power, she organized a bandh against it. During the Emergency, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra was Shankar Rao Chavan. Sujata Anandan, who wrote a biography of Bal Thackeray, had told that Chavan sent two of his messengers to Balasaheb. Bal Thackeray was told that he had only two options, either reach Mumbai Doordarshan’s studio and declare his support for the emergency or be ready for arrest. He was given half an hour to take a decision. After a brief discussion Balasaheb announced his support for the Emergency. Shiv Sena has said that the big leaders are fulfilling the promise made to Balasaheb, who was said to be the Chief Minister of Shiv Sena. Uddhav Thackeray himself has mentioned this. Uddhav Thackeray will take oath as Chief Minister at Shivaji Park at 6.40 pm today. Earlier, Shiv Sena accused the BJP of winning the election using the picture of Bal Thackeray. Party spokesman Sanjay Raut said that for 25 years he (BJP) used posters of Balasaheb to win elections in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
