Dia Mirza makes a big statement and says, “our industry do not welcome the actresses who are about the age of 30 but the male actors who are even 50 wants to cast a heroine who is young in their films”. Dia Mirza is coming back on the silver screen with the Sanjay Dutt’s Biopic, Sanju. The actress is coming back after 6 six years and says that the industry is not as welcoming for the mid 30s.
In an interview, she said that the opportunities for the female actresses starts shrinking, once she hits the mid 30s or approaching mid 30s while the actors who are even above 50 wants to work with the young talent, so casting the young talent ultimately reduce the opportunity for actresses who are in their 30s. The actress gave the examples of the earlier actresses like Sharmila Tagore, Smita Patil, Waheeda Rehman and said that these actresses were getting good opportunities even after their marriage. But in this time, we have to push ourselves for the opportunities or we have to create the opportunities for own.
Dia said, “I am very selective and choosy. I do the roles which I love to and if I think, the role is not good for me, I completely denies the role. After my Iranian movies, I waited for 2 years to get selected by the good role. Finally, I got a call from Raj Kumar Hirani who is the wonderful film maker and offered me the role in their upcoming movie. I was leaving at that time for the vacations and he said, come to my office and I want to narrate a movie. He said, you have to cancel the trip, if you like the story we will start the shooting within 15 days.
